Whether its a day trip to Southport or you are planning a vacation to the area, there are several family oriented activities you should consider.

Southport Pier & Riverwalk

Explore, relax and take in all of the various sites while on the pier and riverwalk. The pier is located at the mouth of the Cape Fear River just off of Howe Street. From the pier you can see Bald Head Island, the Oak Island Lighthouse and even watch the ships passing through. The riverwalk trail begins near the pier and travels down Bay Street.  The trail offers several benches and swings along the way for you to stop and enjoy your peaceful view.

North Carolina Maritime Museum at Southport

A history lovers must see! From the minute you enter the museum you feel as though you are entering an old ship. The museum is one of 3 maritime museums sponsored by the state. The Southport location focuses its display of history with  items from shipwrecks, the Civil War, hurricanes and other items found on the Eastern coast of North Carolina. The museum is free to the public and the kids are sure to love it. Pirate history, scavenger hunts for the kids and super cool views from the periscope. Check out their calendar for upcoming events.

Southport – Fort Fisher Ferry

For a small fee of $5 per car load take a relaxing and scenic ferry ride across the river from Southport to Fort Fisher. Here you can explore the Fort Fisher Aquarium and explore a historical Civil War site. The ferry can accommodate any size car, SUV, or trailer with an adjustable fee. You can even bring your leashed pets with you or allow them to ride inside the car as well. The ferry will even allow you to bring bread to feed the birds along the stern side of the boat.

Southport Restaurants

Among all the activities to do while in Southport, one of the all around favorites is just having a quiet lunch on the water at one of the local restaurants such as Provision Company or Fishy Fishy Café. The view is absolutely breathtaking and it will take your worries away and have you relaxing like they do in Southport, NC!
